Pattern # 41 This technique is explained in ebook Fundamental Chess Patterns and fully explained in ebook Blackburne Shilling para. 4 Jerome Countergambit

The name of this trap is associated to Joseph Henry Blackburne (1841-1924), surname Black Death, who according to the legend earned his life by playing a shilling a game (an old English coin = 5 pence), at least 100 thousands players.

Variation of Italian Game. A Pawn is a bait, and if swallowed, a lot of tactics follow, even mates in 7 moves, so you go home early.

Jerome gambit tries to punish the unaware and it is frequently successful.
